New York, NY, August 26, 2025 – To mark the launch of the official cast album of Buena Vista Social Club™ The Musical, the original Broadway cast and the Tony Award-winning band celebrated with a very special evening: a private cruise along the Hudson River on the night of August 24. The voyage, aboard a vessel illuminated by the New York City skyline, gathered more than 200 guests, including artists, musicians, creatives, producers, journalists, and collaborators of the musical, who toasted to the success of the album and the musical legacy it represents.
This event was the culmination of a series of celebrations surrounding the release of the original cast recording. This production pays homage to the iconic Buena Vista Social Club album, originally released in 1997 and winner of the 1998 Grammy Award. In 2025, 28 years since its release and 27 since its Grammy win, its enduring impact on music history remains unquestionable.
Buena Vista Social Club™ made history this season by becoming the first Broadway musical with a full score in Spanish and dialogue in English.
Winner of 5 Tony Awards, including:
- 2025 Special Tony Award for the Original Band
- Best Featured Actress – Natalie Venetia Belcon
- Best Sound Design – Jonathan Deans

ABOUT BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB™
Buena Vista Social Club™ is both the name of this extraordinary group of musicians who came together almost spontaneously, and of the legendary album they recorded in 1996 at Havana’s EGREM Studios, still resonating with the charm of the 1950s. The recording was the result of the collaboration between American producer and guitarist Ry Cooder, Cuban musical director Juan de Marcos González, and British record label founder/producer Nick Gold. From the very first notes, it was evident that something truly exceptional was being born in those sessions.
What no one could have anticipated was that Buena Vista Social Club would become a global phenomenon: winning a Grammy in 1997 and selling over eight million copies, outselling any other record of its genre. The international acclaim of the original album catapulted artists such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Eliades Ochoa, Omara Portuondo, and Compay Segundo to stardom; it also inspired an award-winning film directed by Wim Wenders and helped revive and spread Cuba’s rich musical heritage. The timelessness of its melodies and the vitality of its veteran performers have consecrated this work as one of the most iconic recordings of the 20th century.
