– Collaboration with Hispanic Federation’s CREAR Futuros Program Promises a Spectacular Evening –
New York City– September 14th, 2023 – Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City is set to come alive with a vibrant celebration on Wednesday, September 27th at 8 PM. In dazzling tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is poised to deliver an unforgettable evening of culture, creativity, and collaboration.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical has joined forces with the renowned organization Hispanic Federation and their transformative program, CREAR Futuros, to craft an activity that transcends boundaries and celebrates the rich tapestry of Hispanic heritage.
CREAR Futuros, a free Latino-serving student mentorship program that has empowered nearly 7,000 students across the country and transformed educational outcomes is bringing together 60 bright young minds from various educational institutions. Among the attendees are students from CUNY, SUNY, La Guardia Community College and SUNY Purchase, an esteemed art school, who are passionate about exploring the world of arts.


The highlight of the evening will be the dynamic “talkback” session immediately following the performance. The group of students will have the unique opportunity to engage in a conversation with the cast and crew, delving into the creative process and the intricate details that bring the Moulin Rouge! The Musical world to life.

ABOUT CREAR
CREAR Futuros is a free peer-mentor program that has served nearly 7,000 students and recruits qualified Latinx students in participating educational institutions to mentor, guide, and support younger students, or mentees. Mentors assist mentees regarding tutoring, financial aid, and resources available to them including, services offered by Hispanic Federation’s community-based member organizations. This past August, Hispanic Federation announced the expansion of CREAR Futuros to Illinois and North Carolina as well as two new schools in New York State. Recent CREAR Futuros data indicates that the college retention rate of participants was 10% higher than that of their peers, proof that the program could help address higher education inequities affecting Latinos. Participating students also had significantly higher GPAs and earned 20 more credits on average. With the expansion of the program, nearly 1,000 mentors and mentees will participate in the 2023-2024 school year across 12 campuses. For comparison, the program served more than 600 students across eight campuses in the 2022-2023 school year.
