The Archdiocese of New York Launches Mobile Application for its New Digital News Outlet

The Good NewsroomTM is expanding its reach, bringing stories about the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of New York to mobile phone users.

New York City, January 31st, 2023 – Today, the Archdiocese of New York announces the launch of a mobile application for its new media outlet, The Good NewsroomTM. This new app is designed to continue the mission of the news platform: to share positive and uplifting stories from the Catholic community, highlighting the good works and impact of the Church in the Archdiocese of New York and beyond.

With a goal of enhancing a sense of community among Catholics and the broader community at large, the Archdiocese has taken steps to ensure New York’s Latino community is included in the news coverage. The news platform publishes bilingual content in both English and Spanish, including a Spanish column front and center on their homepage.

The Good NewsroomTM should play a big role in the Latino community of New York,” said Bishop Joseph Espaillat, a key member of the Good Newsroom planning and oversight committee. “There are not many media outlets covering the Church in the City. We know that spirituality and faith are huge for Latinos, but you rarely read stories about what is happening in the Catholic community.”

The new app relies heavily on video storytelling and quick turnaround times for reporting on events and initiatives of the Archdiocese. Stories range from updates on parishes, schools, and charitable outreach, to breaking news in the religious community.

“As Latinos, we should hear more of those types of stories,” said Bishop Espaillat. “That is our purpose, to speak about faith in a way that has not been done before, using all possible tools to announce the Good News.”

In its first month, The Good NewsroomTM generated considerable interest with 48,000 visitors and 8,300 video views. That audience is expected to rise through its new mobile app. Through a commitment to digital innovation, the Archdiocese replaced Catholic New York, its own bi-weekly newspaper that had been in print for over four decades with the news digital newsroom.

“We realized that when we were writing stories, they were old news by the time the paper made its way to the readers’ hands,” explained Bishop Espaillat. “That’s why we decided to make this new platform.”

The Good NewsroomTM mobile app is now available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Visit www.thegoodnewsroom.org to see their daily news stories and learn more.
